Rob Buehler
Painter
Rob remembers a poet once describing his work as “trying to make the ordinary seem extraordinary.” That seems to be Rob’s aim as well. He tries to make an everyday scene unique, catching it in a light that invites more than just a passing glance.
Like so many artists he knows, Rob is influenced by Sorolla, Sargent, and Zorn, as well as Western artists James Reynolds and Bill Anton.
Rob is in his 70’s now. He pretends that he’s not, but because it’s a fact, he paints a lot, every day if he can. He lives for the days when the brush has a life of its own, right out of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.
Rob holds an English Lit degree from the University of Arizona, a far cry from an art degree. Instead, he took a countless number of Scottsdale Artist School classes and workshops taught by professional artists, including Matt Smith, Phil Starke, John Michael Carter, Laura Robb, Henry Yan, Mark Boedges, Gregg Kreutz, Linda Glover Gooch (to name only some). That became his unofficial art “degree”, and it has brought him some success. His work has been represented in Tucson by Casas Adobe Art Gallery, and Desert Artisans Gallery. One of his pieces was juried into the prestigious regional Mountain Oyster Art show. He continues his studies locally with in life drawing with Michael O’Keefe. Currently, his work is on display at LAST Art Gallery in McKinney, Texas as well as The Cove, also in McKinney.
