Rachael Bower
Ceramic Artist
Rachael Bower is a ceramic artist based in North Texas whose work explores curiosity and the relationship between form and what feels just beyond recognition. Through handbuilt ceramic objects and bespoke glazes developed from scratch, she creates tactile works that feel timeless and suspended between earth and unfamiliar worlds.
Each piece begins through a refined handbuilding process where she allows subtle irregularities to remain present, treating them as essential to the identity of each object. The result is work that feels intentional and refined while holding evidence of human touch.
A central part of her work is glaze development. She formulates her own glazes from powdered ceramic materials, building surfaces through iterative testing and material exploration. Her process produces unusual color variegation and surfaces that feel soft and weathered. Each work emerges through a unique combination of form, glaze, and firing, resulting in objects that cannot be precisely replicated.
She holds a degree in Art & Technology from The University of Texas at Dallas, and the interdisciplinary thinking cultivated through that program continues to inform her approach to making. Inspired by hidden systems, deep time, and the beauty of what remains undiscovered, Rachael creates work that invites curiosity, reflection, and sustained attention to the world around us.
