The Cove is pleased to introduce to McKinney the imaginative vision of artist Chris Hoover, whose current series centers on a cast of pop-surrealist characters moving through strange, interconnected realms. Drawing on nostalgic cartoon imagery, graffiti and outdoor art influences, and large-scale acrylic painting, Hoover creates layered environments in which humor and visual familiarity coexist with undercurrents of danger, ignorance, and malevolence. Through these shifting fantasy worlds, the work explores the tension between playfulness and darker forces, inviting viewers to look beyond the surface and consider what may be unfolding beneath it.
